Arts writer turned geek Julia Kaganskiy is interested in the intersection of culture and technology.
So much so that she launched a meetup called Arts, Culture and Technology that gets together for the first time on Thursday night:
Arts, Culture and Technology Meetup
Thursday, January 15, 7 PM
Art Bar
52 8th Ave
New York, NY 10014
Says Julia in her meetup description:
"Democratizing" the arts has been a long-standing goal in the art world, and no medium makes it more feasible than the web. Yet, few cultural institutions seem to be taking advantage of this opportunity to its fullest potential, whether due to skepticism or lack of resources.
She must have hit a chord. Between the people who said yes and the people who said maybe to this first meeting, she may have 100 new friends.
In her blog, Hai-br0w Kulture, Julia works through her ideas on the subject. Take a look at her three-part commentary on art museums and flickr. It’s an incisive critique of MoMA, the Met, and the Brooklyn Museum and their use of what should be an easy and appropriate social media tool, given their collections.
By the way, I met Julia where I meet a lot of interesting people these days: twitter.
